78% of people hospitalized for Covid were overweight or obese

And about 50% of Americans are overweight or obese. The main culprit is a diet loaded with sugar and processed food. I wish it were so easy as to just change our diets. But from my experience with my clients, it is clear that there is more to it than just swapping foods.
There are deep-seated emotional ties to the foods we choose to eat. We get comfort from our sugary snacks and processed treats. A recent meme fad on social media claims that eating healthy will take all the remaining joy out of your life. This speaks to the short-term feelings of pleasure associated with unhealthy eating, even if in the long-term it means mounting health problems.
It takes work to change habits. It takes time. Discomfort will arise before the true feelings of happiness filter in. We need more social support to make these changes, rather than being bombarded with advertising on television, the internet, and roadside signs. It takes tenacity to make it through the gauntlet and out to the other side.
But for those who can do it, the most beautiful reward awaits. Longevity, deep-rooted contentedness, lasting happiness, vitality, discovering who you truly are, and achieving your greatest dreams, are all waiting to be experienced. Sure it takes time and effort to navigate the maze of diet and physical and mental health strategies, but there are people out there who have done it and can help.
The best time to start taking better care of your health was 10 years ago. The second best time is now.
